Softshell fabrics combine the desirable properties of traditional clothing and waterproof fleece to enhance your comfort while providing protection in most weather conditions. Softshell is breathable and stretchy, yet highly water-repellent and wind-resistant. It offers a versatile outer layer that can handle a variety of weather situations.
Softshell clothing is designed for active individuals who spend a lot of time outdoors. Anyone engaging in outdoor activities where moisture is a factor will benefit from wearing breathable, waterproof softshell garments. Use Nikwax Softshell Proof™ when your softshell clothing becomes waterlogged. Softshell fabrics can absorb water simply due to dirt. First, try cleaning the softshell clothing with Nikwax Tech Wash®, and if it is relatively new or has recently been re-treated, washing alone may be sufficient to restore its durable water repellency.
Nikwax Softshell Proof™ is safe for use with breathable softshell clothing. It is water-based, non-flammable, and contains no volatile organic compounds (VOCs) or fluorinated hydrocarbons. Nikwax Softshell Proof™ has been specifically designed and optimized for breathable softshell garments: it provides durable water repellency while maintaining breathability.
Nikwax Softshell Proof™ Wash-In is easily and quickly applied during machine washing, and the durable water repellency develops while air drying. Applying the treatment during the washing cycle ensures that it penetrates the fabric, reaching seams, tapes, and the material itself.
Hand Washing:
- Apply Nikwax Softshell Proof™ Wash-In by hand.
- Soak 1 piece of clean clothing in 6 L of warm water in a tub or basin.
- Add 100 ml of Softshell Proof™ treatment.
- The solution should be well mixed in the water. Let the clothing soak for 5 minutes and stir again.
- Rinse in cold water until it runs clear.
Machine Washing:
For best results, remove all non-washable items before treatment. Clothing should be pre-washed (in a separate wash cycle) with Nikwax Tech Wash®. The treatment can be applied to damp surfaces – there is no need to dry them before treatment.
- Remove any detergent residues from the dispenser.
- Place a maximum of 2 pieces of clean clothing in the washing machine.
- Add 100 ml for each piece of clothing.
- Set the synthetic fabric wash cycle to 30° and low spin.
- To maintain the waterproof properties of the clothing, it should be washed with Nikwax Tech Wash® before treatment.
