Softshell fabrics combine the desirable properties of traditional clothing and waterproof fleece to enhance your comfort while providing protection in most weather conditions. Softshell clothing is designed for active individuals who spend considerable time outdoors. Anyone who is active in moist environments will benefit from wearing breathable, waterproof softshell clothing. Use Nikwax Softshell Proof™ when your softshell clothing becomes waterlogged. Softshell can absorb water simply because it is dirty. Primarily, try cleaning your softshell garments with Nikwax Tech Wash®, and if they are relatively new or have been recently re-proofed, just cleaning will suffice to restore lasting water repellency.
Nikwax Softshell Proof™ is safe to use with breathable softshell clothing. It is water-based, non-flammable, and contains no volatile organic compounds (VOCs) or fluorinated hydrocarbons. Nikwax Softshell Proof™ has been specifically designed and optimized for breathable softshell apparel: it provides lasting water repellency while maintaining breathability properties.
Nikwax Softshell Proof™ Wash-In can be easily and quickly applied during machine washing, and lasting water repellency develops while air drying. Applying the treatment during the wash cycle ensures that it penetrates the garment, reaching seams, tapes, and fabric.
Hand Washing:
- Apply Nikwax Softshell Proof™ Wash-In by hand.
- Soak 1 piece of clean clothing in 6 liters of warm water in a tub or basin.
- Add 100 ml of Softshell Proof™ treatment.
- The product should be well distributed in the water. Leave the clothing to soak for 5 minutes and stir again.
- Rinse in cold water until clear.
Machine Washing:
For best results, remove all non-washable elements before treatment. It is recommended to wash the clothing first (in a separate wash cycle) with Nikwax Tech Wash®. The treatment can be applied to damp surfaces – there’s no need to dry them before treatment.
- Remove any powder residue from the dispenser.
- Place a maximum of 2 pieces of clean clothing in the washing machine.
- Add 100 ml for each piece of clothing.
- Set the synthetic fabric wash cycle to 30° and low spin.
- To maintain the waterproof properties of the clothing, it should be washed in Nikwax Tech Wash® before treatment.
